Hi everyone - wanted to share the latest from the Clinton Foundation after the first full day of the CGI Annual Meeting wraps up.Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting (Sept. 26-29)President Clinton established the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), an initiative of the Clinton Foundation, to convene global leaders to create and implement innovative solutions through the creation of Commitments to Action - new, specific, measurable plans to address some of the world's most pressing challenges.An Associated Press article today profiled CGI and the unique Commitment to Action model. The piece cites several commitments, including:'One such pledge has led to financial education for more than 1.2 million poor women and youths and scholarships for more than 10,000 students in Kenya. Another has spawned more than 430 successful online crowdfunding campaigns for projects centered on women and girls. A third, aimed at enlisting African-American churches in combatting HIV and AIDS, has trained more than 500 religious leaders.'We're in the middle of defining the terms of our interdependence in a world where so much of our identity is caught up in our differences,' Bill Clinton said. We blend strategies and financing from both the development and the private sectors, operating agribusinesses alongside smallholder farmer outreach. She writes how 'Quality assured medicines are a pillar of public health and one underlying fundamental tenant, or inherent promise that they provide, is that they will be safe, of good quality and effective.'We are working with the Clinton Global Initiative and other partners to help strengthen health systems in Africa and eliminate poor quality medicines from the region's drug supply. According to some analyses, 'moringa leaves have double the protein in yogurt, four times more calcium than milk, and seven times more vitamin C than oranges.' As discussed in an NPR story, Kuli Kuli Foods, which sells moringa products in the U.S., is partnering with the Clinton Foundation and the Smallholder Farmers Alliance to support smallholder women farmers in Haiti, where they will cultivate moringa. This partnership - and a new CGI commitment - will be highlighted during the 2015 Annual Meeting.The company recently announced a partnership with the Clinton Foundation to launch a similar program in Haiti. Eventually, Curtis envisions relationships with farmers around the world. Even the leftist Francois Hollande in France has backtracked on much of his leftism. Former U.S. President Bill Clinton's strategy is still the right one in a post-Cold War, postsocialist world -- the most serious place in politics remains the center ground.
